Sizing Scoot Boots

Here you can find out how to determine the right size of scoot boots. How you should measure the hooves for the Scootboots, which photos we need for a size consultation, how you can recognise whether your Scootboots fit correctly, how to put them on and when Scootboots are not the right hoof boots for your horse. Send photos

We will endeavour to reply within 24 hours (working days). As it is very difficult to determine the correct size from photos alone, please note that this is only a suggestion.

Important

so that we can advise you sensibly:

  • 4 photos per hoof
  • 1- 2 weeks after processing
  • Costume area not covered
  • Measuring tape not covered
  • clean hooves
  • Correct shooting angle

It is very difficult to take suitable photos on your own. It's best to get a friend to help you.

How should

Scoot Boots

fit?

You have new Scoot boots and are not sure if they fit properly? Here's what you need to look out for:

It is possible to slide your little finger between the strap and the bale with a little pressure (not at the bar which comes from the ground), if not you need a size bigger or have to widen the bale strap with a heat gun. The bale must never be squeezed by the strap.

The upper edge of the scoot boot should be evenly spaced from the hoof wall. Ideally, the front distance between the toe straps should be approx. 10-15 mm, with freshly trimmed hooves the distance can be less, but the side parts must not touch. A larger gap at the top is not a problem, extra long toe straps (1cm longer) are available for this purpose.

Two fingers must fit well under the fetlock strap, if it is too tight, the movement of the fetlock can pull on the back of the shoe, causing it to slip and rub. This does not happen with the correct adjustment

Don't be confused, the hoof doesn't have to reach right up to the edge. But it is also not wrong if it is up to the edge at the end of the trimming period.

When the shoe is fully put on, pick up the hoof and turn the shoe slightly to the left and right. The shoe must not slip

How do I put

Scoot Boots

On?

  •  Open all straps
  • Lift hoof as when scraping out
  • Push the toe in first
  • Hold the shoe by the sole and slide it over the bale of the foot
  • Place the hoof on the ground
  • Take the toe strap between your thumb and index finger, pull it towards the head screw, turn it slightly and put it over the head screw from bottom to top. This can be difficult at first with new shoes, but once you get the hang of it, it's very easy. I close both shoes from the same side so that I can always pull the toe strap towards me.
  • Fix the fetlock strap, 2 fingers must fit well in the front, do not make it too tight as otherwise the movement of the fetlock can cause the hoof boot to slip and cause friction
  • and then enjoy the ride

Initially, it may be easier to close the Front Strap with a hoof pick or with the help of small pliers
